Just before graduating from Saint Xavier University, Chicago, with a bachelor of arts in English and a minor in education, I was fortunate to be hired by School District 308 in1994. As a teacher at Thompson Junior High, I taught seventh grade speech, eighth grade composition, and eighth grade drama for two years. I completed my master’s degree in teaching at Aurora University, Aurora, Ill., in 1998. As the blocked language arts class was created, I moved to seventh grade language arts, which I taught for six years. While supervising in the learning center, I realized how much I enjoyed it and received my school library media endorsement from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, in 2002. Thompson’s learning resource center (LRC) position opened in 2002, and I spent the next 10 years as Thompson Junior High’s LRC director. I started an exciting new chapter as LRC director at Murphy Junior High in 2012. This is my 18th year as an LRC director and my 26th school year in District 308.
